Signature Endurance & Adventure Events

Big Bear Lake has become one of the premier outdoor recreation and endurance sports destinations in the Western United States, attracting thousands of athletes, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts each year. From world-class trail running and mountain biking to cycling, obstacle racing, motocross, and ultra-marathons, the region offers an unparalleled high-altitude playground for competitors and weekend warriors alike.

Many participants use High Alpine Training Club as their training and recovery headquarters, taking advantage of altitude conditioning, strength training, mobility work, recovery services, and our growing community of runners, hikers, cyclists, and outdoor athletes. Whether you're preparing for your first trail race or your next 100-mile ultra, Big Bear offers an incredible calendar of events throughout the year.

  • Big Bear Peaks & Pines / Holcomb Valley Trail Run (June 12–14, 2026)
    One of Southern California's most beloved trail running weekends featuring a 3-day stage race and distances ranging from 5 miles to 48 miles through the beautiful Holcomb Valley backcountry. 
  • Monster Energy Pro Downhill & USA Cycling Gravity National Championships (July 22–26, 2026)
    America's top downhill mountain bikers compete on the steep and technical terrain of Summit Bike Park. 
  • Tour de Big Bear (July 31 – August 2, 2026)
    Southern California's premier alpine cycling festival featuring road, gravel, and mountain bike events ranging from beginner-friendly rides to challenging century routes over Onyx Summit. 
  • Conquer the Wall (August 15, 2026)
    A legendary one-mile uphill challenge ascending more than 1,000 vertical feet straight up a Snow Summit ski run. 
  • Big Bear MX Grand Prix by O'Neal (August 19–23, 2026)
    A unique mountain motocross experience utilizing ski slopes, fire roads, custom jumps, and berms at Bear Mountain Resort. 
  • Big Bear Tough Mudder Weekend (September 12–13, 2026)
    Team-oriented obstacle racing featuring mud, mountain climbs, and signature Tough Mudder challenges. 
  • Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB (October 9–11, 2026)
    A world-renowned UTMB World Series event offering 10K, 21K, 50K, 100K, and 100-mile races across Big Bear's rugged mountain terrain.

As the founder of the Moonridge Run Club and BBURRO Trail Running Community, Matt has helped create welcoming spaces where runners of all abilities—from first-timers to experienced ultra athletes—can explore Big Bear's incredible trail system together.

Known for his "no runner left behind" philosophy, Matt's group runs emphasize community, encouragement, and enjoying the mountains as much as the miles. Whether leading a casual social run through Moonridge or tackling a challenging high-altitude trail adventure, Matt is dedicated to helping people build confidence, discover new trails, and connect with others who share a love for the outdoors.
